One Direction dropped its latest single, "Drag Me Down" on Thursday, July 30. Band members Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson each recorded a video promoting the song on social media.
"All my life you stood by me when no one else was ever behind me. All these lights that can't blind me. With your love, nobody can drag me down," sings One Direction.
One Direction will perform "Drag Me Down" live on "Good Morning America' in a summer concert series at Central Park in New York City, New York on Aug. 4. Free tickets are available at the GMA official website.
"One Direction's new single "Drag Me Down" offers the "mature" sound that the group members has been boasting about in the lead-up to their fifth studio album," wrote Jason Lipshutz in a Billboard review.
Liam told fans that the song release is a "bit of a surprise" and hoped that they would love the song as much as the band did. Louis thanked fans for their "constant support" and said that they were "proud of it."
"It's the first song from the new album that we've been working very, very, very hard on. We can't wait for you to hear it," said Liam in a video.
"Drag Me Down" was written by Louis and music producer Julian Bunetta. It reached No.1 on Apple iTunes' list of Hot Tracks. The single runs for 3 min. and 12 sec.
It is the band's first song release since Zayn Malik left in March 2015. The news comes one day after the former member announced on Twitter that he signed with RCA Records.
