Actress Charlize Theron adopted her second child, a daughter named August in July 2015. She worked with an adoption agency for half a year to adopt August. TMZ first reported the news on August 1, 2015.
August is African American. She is the second child that Theron has adopted. Her first child is Jackson, who is three years old. Jackson was adopted from South Africa in 2012.
"It's been amazing, the amount of emails and congratulations. Everyone's just been so lovely "” it's been really nice," said Theron to Ryan Seacrest in March 2012.
Theron was born in South Africa and serves the African community through The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), an organization committed to stopping HIV/AIDS/
"One decision can decide their future for the rest of their lives. An entire generation was wiped out because of a disease that nobody wanted to talk about," said 39-year-old Theron in a video.
CTAOP provides education, treatment, and a place to discuss HIV/AIDS. The organization serves youth in South Africa, "which has the highest number of people living with HIV in the world."
The organization also targets Sub-Saharan Africa. CTAOP programs work directly with youth between the ages of 10-20. It is estimated that over 200,000 youths have benefitted from the organization's work.
