Samsung has officially released a new version of its 2013 flagship handset the Galaxy S4.
Without any big announcements or launch events, the South Korean tech giant quietly debuted the Galaxy S4 Mini Plus through its official online store.
Although it may seem that Samsung has already moved forward with the anticipated release of its next-gen devices, such as the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, it appears that the company is still looking out for its older products.
Two years after the release of the Galaxy S4, Samsung has officially unveiled its latest version dubbed as the Galaxy S4 Mini Plus. Also known as the Galaxy S4 Value Edition in certain regions, it has the model number Samsung I9195I. It serves as the second variant of the Galaxy S4, according to GSM Arena.
It is the successor of the Galaxy S4 Mini, which came out in July, 2013, which is about three months after the official release of the original handset model. As a member of Samsung's Mini line of devices, the Galaxy S4 Mini features a significantly smaller display than the Galaxy S4 at 4.3 inches. The former flagship device, on the other hand, came with a 5-inch screen.
The Galaxy S4 Mini Plus, however, still sports almost the exact same specs as the Galaxy S4 Mini. It also features a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 540x960 pixels and packs 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
Like its predecessor, the latest device also has a microSD card slot which can be used to expand the handset's native memory to 64GB.
Another feature that the two devices share is the camera configuration. Both house an 8-megapixel main camera paired with a 1.9-megapixel front shooter.
The main difference between the Galaxy S4 Mini Plus and Galaxy S4 Mini, however, is the former's processor. Samsung has equipped its latest device with an update Snapdragon 410 chip from Qualcomm that comes with the quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU.
It also comes with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat as its stock OS and runs on a 1900mAh battery that can provide up to 14 hours of talk time.
The Galaxy S4 Mini Plus is currently available only in European regions and is priced at €239 or around $260. It is not yet clear if Samsung will release the device in the U.S. or in other countries, Phone Arena reported.
