Samsung has started rolling out the latest version of the Android Lollipop update for the Galaxy E5.
Since the device originally came with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat as its stock operating system, the jump to the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes with significant improvements and new features.
Currently, the update is only available to users residing in India and Russia. But, as noted by Android Geeks, the update should arrive to other regions including the U.S. within the next few weeks.
The latest update upgrades the device's firmware version to build number E500HXXU1BOG6. It can be downloaded over the air and has a file size of 744MB.
Before downloading and installing the update though, users must first make sure that their devices have enough battery life and that they are connected to a secure and stable Wi-Fi network.
Through the latest Android update, Galaxy E5 users can expect to see a number of improvements in their devices, according to Sam Mobile. For one, they will receive a revamped interface through the Lollipop's Material Design. This feature brings a more colorful and interactive look to the device's interface.
The update also comes with more customizable control options for the notifications settings as well as improvements in the device's battery consumption.
In addition, the 5.1.1 update packs a wide range of new security features such as the Guest Mode, which allows multiple users to create their own profiles in a single device. The update can also lock out unauthorized users even after resetting the factory settings.
The arrival of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the Galaxy E5 is considered as the device's first major update since it was officially released.
The device came out in February of this year and was marketed by Samsung as a mid-range handset. It can be purchased in the U.S. for below $250.
The Galaxy E5 sports a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. It is powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor from Qualcomm and packs 1.5GB of RAM. It also houses a non-expandable 16GB of internal storage.
The Galaxy E5 comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash. The front side of the device features a 5-megapixel secondary snapper.
There are no official announcements yet as to when U.S. owners of the Galaxy E5 will receive the latest Android Lollipop update. But, before it is rolled out by carriers, it will probably go through various testing phases first. This could mean that it might take a couple of weeks or months before the update is released to the public.
