Sony has started rolling out a new firmware update for the Xperia M4 Aqua Dual.
Although a minor one, the update is designed to fix the device's overheating issues.
The update, which upgrades the software's build number to 26.1.B.2.102 is currently being released to users in India and Vietnam. There are no details yet as to when it will arrive in other regions but since the roll out is already way, users from various countries can expect to receive it soon through the local network carriers.
Sony's latest update is 144.5 or 355.9MB in size, depending on the regional model of the Xperia M4 Aqua Dual. It doesn't seem to come with additional features for the device's interface but according to the Xperia Blog, it will resolve the overheating problems plaguing the handset.
Shortly after the smartphone was released earlier in June, the model became the subject of various review posts. Some reports claimed that the device suffers from temperature-related problems. Times of India noted that like the controversial Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm, the Xperia M4 Aqua Dual's Snapdragon 615 is also prone to the same issue.
However, the site noted that after an update was released for the device during its review period, its temperature level normalized.
Android Authority also experienced the same problem with the device while testing it. Usually, devices tend to overheat when used on heavy activities such as mobile gaming. However, according to the site, the Xperia M4 Aqua Dual became alarmingly warm even though it was only being used for simple activities such as downloading apps and operating the camera.
It seems the Aqua Dual is not the only member of the Xperia family that suffers overheating issues.
In June, various sources reported that the Xperia Z4, which is known as the Xperia Z3+ in Europe, also had the same temperature-related problem.
Tech site Recombu noted that the reason behind the issue is probably the Snapdragon 810processor powering the device.
After all, this chip model doesn't have a good track record in terms of performance despite appearing in many flagship devices. Earlier this year, chip-maker Qualcomm faced criticism after benchmark tests on the HTC One M9 and the G Flex 2 from LG revealed that the devices are prone to thermal problems.
In response to the issue, Qualcomm said that it has already improved the Snapdragon 810 in the form of version 2.1.
