Sprint has officially rolled out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4 in the U.S.
This marks the first major firmware upgrade for Samsung's current flagship phablet since it was first released.
As reported by Android Authority, the latest update is only available for Sprint's CDMA Galaxy Note 4 with model number SM-N910P. It will not work with other versions of the phablet particularly those released internationally.
Since the roll out has already begun, users can expect to receive a notification from Sprint regarding the update's availability. They can also manually check for it through their devices' Setting menu.
However, for those who do not want to wait any longer for the update, the can directly download it from Sam Mobile.
Ubergizmo noted that the latest Lollipop update was built on July 16, which means that it might include an additional security patch released by Sprint to protect Galaxy Note 4 users against the Stagefright exploit.
According to the site, this patch which came out earlier this month, can prevent hackers from taking advantage of Android's media playback program dubbed as Stagefright.
Sprint is the first carrier in the U.S. to release an update against the Stagefright hack. Other carriers are expected to release their own patches soon since Samsung, Google, LG and Motorola have already announced that they will begin rolling out periodic updates for the protection of Android users.
Aside from security updates, Sprint's Galaxy Note 4 users can also expect to see new features and improvements after downloading the latest version of the Lollipop.
Since the device came with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat as its stock operating system, the huge jump to version 5.1.1 Lollipop comes with a new design for the firmware's user interface. Through the Lollipop's Material Design, the interface will feature more vibrant, animated and colorful themes and icons
In addition, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update features a new Guest Mode which allows multiple users to access a device using their own profiles. The latest update also comes with improvements for the device's battery life as well as a couple of bug fixes.
The Galaxy Note 4 was officially released by Samsung in October of last year. It features a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. It is powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor and packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
