Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus during its recent Unpacked event.
Shortly after the handsets were unveiled, the major network carriers in the U.S. announced their pricing details and availability.
According to Samsung, pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus for U.S. customers will begin today. The models will then be shipped out starting on August 21, NDTV has learned.
As confirmed by the South Korean tech giants, both models run on the Android 5.1 Lollipop as their stock operating system. The two devices also sport 5.7-inch Super AMOLED displays with resolution settings of 1440x2560 pixels.
Both are powered by the same octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset and pack 4GB of RAM each. They are available in 32 and 64GB storage variants but do not have a slot for a microSD card.
The two new smartphones also come with a 16-megapixel rear camera paired with a 5-megaixel selfie snapper.
Although the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge are equipped with 3,000 mAh batteries, Samsung said they included a feature to address the issues users have with their capacities.
According to the company, through Fast Charging Technology, the batteries can be charged to 100 percent in 120 minutes through wireless charging. Wired charging, on the other hand, can reach a full charge in just 90 minute.
As for their other features, both come with a fingerprint reader integrated into the Home button. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 5 comes with an S Pen that can be removed from the body of the device through a one-click system.
During the launch, JK Shin, the president of Samsung's Mobile Division said that despite the device's massive screens, he believes these new devices will provide users with a better user experience.
"At Samsung, we believed in the promise that large screen smartphones could actively address some major consumer pain points by providing users with a better viewing experience and more productivity on the go," he said according to NDTV.
"With the launch of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Note 5, we're re-emphasizing our ongoing commitment to bold, fearless innovation that meets the needs of our consumers," Shin added.
