Verizon has started rolling out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 devices.
Aside from additional features and improvements, the update also comes with a security patch against the Stagefright exploit, GSM Arena reported.
The roll out began earlier this week and is currently being conducted in stages. This means not all users of the mentioned devices will be able to receive the software upgrades at the same time.
But some users can expect to receive a notification regarding its availability while others can manually check for it through their devices' Settings menu.
Based on Verizon's notes for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the updates for these two devices come with the same features. According to Verizon, the owners of these devices will receive the Caller Name ID feature. They can use this by simply enabling Advanced Calling.
Through this feature, unknown callers will be identified, giving users a more efficient way to screen incoming calls.
The latest version of the Lollipop also comes with new enhancements for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge's interfaces. With the updated, users will now be able to turn off the parallax effect which gives the wallpaper a 3D-like appearance.
In addition, the update also comes with a new option to adjust the camera's exposure through the view finder.
For the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, on the other hand, the device will automatically install the Galaxy Apps once users sign into their Samsung Account after getting the latest Lollipop update.
The update for the tablet also comes with a new security feature dubbed as Reactivation Lock. Through this feature, unauthorized users will not be able to access a device with the owner's Samsung Account credentials.
But aside from these enhancements, probably the most significant feature of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is the security path against the Stagefright exploit.
According to researchers, using a vulnerability in the Android platform's Stagefright tool, hackers can easily access devices using text messages containing a malware-infected media file. The security experts warned that about 950 million Android users are at risk of being hacked due to the Stagefright exploit.
The patch for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, is the latest firmware update released by Verizon for Samsung devices.
Last week, the network carrier also rolled out a security patch for the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note S5, according to Android Central.
