PhoneBuff, a YouTube user and reviewer of gadgets recently released the video for the drop tests of Samsung's Galaxy Note 5.
Considering that the company's current flagship phablet has a glass rear casing, the device performed fairly well during the first set of tests.
During the first three tests, the device was dropped from a height of one meter onto a tile floor using a special dropping machine, according to Slash Gear.
For the first test, the Galaxy Note 5 was dropped on its back. It sustained a few minor spider-web cracks as well as some scratches on its glass surface. But, as pointed out by the presenter, the device still functions and the cracks are too small to cut skin.
Then, from the same height, the device was dropped on its side onto the tile floor. Impressively, the metal edges of the device remained intact. It only had a few minor scratches on the frame.
For the third test, the Galaxy Note 5 was dropped face-first. This shattered the device's display but its touch screen feature and other functions were still operational.
In the second batch of tests, however, the tile floor was replaced with a slab of concrete. When dropped on its back from one meter, the glass casing shattered but the device still worked properly.
The device also survived the same test conditions when it landed on its metal edges.
The display, however, cracked after hitting the concrete floor. Also, some parts of the touch screen were inoperable after the test.
As NDTV noted, the second test somehow represent to the Galaxy Note 5 if a user drops it from his or her pocket while walking on a sidewalk. The first test, or the one with the tile floor, simulates indoor settings such as a kitchen or a bathroom.
Hopefully, the video will help users get an idea of what will happen to their Galaxy Note 5 when dropped.
In terms of the Galaxy Note 5's toughness, 9to5Google stated that the phablet performed better than the Galaxy S6 in the same drop test. Although the former had a dead spot on its screen after its display hit the floor, the latter was left totally inoperable when dropped under the same conditions.
However, based on PhoneBuff's previous tests, the Apple iPhone 6 and HTC One M9 are sturdier devices than the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5. Apple's flagship handset received a durability score of 5.3 while the Galaxy S6 got a 3.7. The HTC One M9, on the other hand, got a 5.5.
