Perrie Edwards showed that she still cares about her ex-fiance Zayn Malik when she broke down in tears during her solo in "The End" on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The English Little Mix vocalist could not bring herself to sing her line "but love isn't fair." Band members Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson came to her rescue onstage.
"And no one can love you the way I used to do," sang 23-year-old Edwards. The next line "but love isn't fair," could not pass her lips and she choked up on her tears. Thirlwall and Pinnock flocked to her and shielded her with hugs. Nelson tried to do damage control, as they were in the middle of a concert performance.
"It's been a long day and we've had no sleep. So I think this is why this has happened. We're just very emotional," said Nelson through the mic. Nelson tried to use humor to uplift the situation. Fans were heard saying, "We love you Perrie!"
Little Mix was celebrating their four-year anniversary in a special NBC livestream event on the 30 Rock Stage. Edwards has been promoting their latest hit single, "Black Magic" in America. Until Wednesday, she has kept a brave face on regarding her past with Malik in multiple interviews and television shows. James Cordon from "The Late Late Show' asked Edwards how she was doing on Monday, Aug. 17.
"Do you know what? I'm good. I'm having an absolute blast in America, things are going so well, and I just wake up every day and I thank my lucky stars I have these three girls," said Edwards with a bright attitude.
Malik ended his three-year relationship and engagement with Edwards in July 2015 over text message. Since then, Malik has been planning on removing his large tattoo of Edwards from his upper right arm. Edwards removed all photos of her ex-fiance from her Instagram. Malik and Edwards also put their $4.2 million London home up for sale.
