Stana Katic's Beckett Will Feud With Ryan-Esposito in 'Castle' Season 8

For the past few seasons of "Castle," Detective Kate Beckett (played by Stana Katic) had maintained a good and solid relationship with her colleagues Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas), but now that she has been promoted as Captain of the 12th Precinct, some dynamics into their relationship are about to change.

Ryan will be expecting a baby with his wife Jenny, and show creator Terence Paul Winter said that this piece of good news will lead to a feud between Ryan, Beckett and Esposito, according to the International Business Times.

"Ultimately, that's going to make Ryan even more paranoid and more excited about trying to make more money. When he sees Beckett rising up in the ranks, the boys realise it's time for them to start looking at their futures, which is going to create some tension and conflict between them," Winter said.

As for the marriage between Beckett and Rick Castle (played by Nathan Fillion), fans need not worry about any trouble brewing for the power couple since season 8 will concentrate more so on their romance.

"It's always been about the Castle-Beckett love story. That's steeped in the DNA of the show, and that's what it will always be. Now, it's about exploring the next evolution of it. How do we deepen that love story? What challenges can we put their way that can put their romance at a much higher, different place?" said Winter.

What they want to pursue, on the other hand, is Castle's mysterious disappearance. To recall, Castle went missing on the day of his wedding to Beckett, and when they finally found him, he lost some of his memory. All Castle could recall was some flashbacks of his missing time - a few familiar faces, a tent, and a boat - but nothing more.

As determined as he was to find out the truth, the truth seemed to elude him. But it will be different next season, since the two hour special premiere will have Rick digging up clues to his past while investigating his own father's disappearance.

"This year, we really do want to get into what happened when he was gone in a way that hopefully ties a lot of the threads of mysteries of seven seasons together in an unexpected and exciting way," showrunner Alexi Hawley said.

ABC will premiere "Castle" Season 8 on Monday, September 21 at 9 p.m.
