Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger announced complicated news of their separation after two years of marriage on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The Canadian rocker couple shared the news with the public on Instagram and Twitter. Kroeger, the lead vocalist of Nickelback is currently recovering from a vocal cord surgery.
"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments," wrote 30-year-old Lavigne in an Instagram post.
Lavigne posted a photo of herself and Kroeger back in happier times. In the photo, they are both sharing bright smiles, as they clasp onto each others' hands.
"We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
The news of the split comes a few days after Lavigne's performance with Taylor Swift on Aug. 29. Lavigne and Swift sang 'Complicated' on the '1989' concert tour.
Lavigne and Kroeger began dating in July 2012 after working together on her fifth studio album. They got engaged later that same year and got married at France in July 2013. Divorce rumors in the media began in Sept. 2014.
Lavigne told a fan on Twitter that she was suffering from a disease in Dec. People magazine revealed that Lavigne was diagnosed with Lyme disease in April 2015. The singer released a music video for "Fly,' and donated the proceeds to the Special Olympics later that month.
Kroeger and Nickelback cancelled the European tour of "No Fixed Address,' their eighth studio album on Aug. 14, 2015. Kroeger was told to rest for nine months. Scheduled concerts for Sept. 30 - Dec. 7 were cancelled and fans were informed that they would receive ticket refunds on Facebook.
"We are saddened to announce that we are forced to cancel all remaining dates for the 2015 No Fixed Address World Tour due to an extended period of vocal rest ordered for Chad, who recently underwent surgery on his voice box," wrote Nickeback in a Facebook post.
"We are sorry to miss our fans out on the road this fall, but Chad's health, healing and full recovery are what is most important right now. Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase."
Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Lavigne's net worth is $50 million, while Kroeger's net worth is $60 million.
