The highly awaited IFA event in Berlin officially kicked off with various manufacturers presenting their own upcoming devices.

Sony owned the stage during the first day of the trade show with the launch of three different Xperia Z5 models.

The first variant, or the Xperia Z5, is the company's new flagship handset. It sports a 5.2-inch screen and runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as its stock operating system. The smartphone packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space which can be expanded through the device's microSD card support, GSM Arena reported.

The main feature of the new handset is its impressive 23-megapixel primary camera. Equipped with a special sensor specifically designed by Sony for the Xperia Z5, the device's camera is capable of taking images at 4:3 or 16:19 aspect ratios.

As for its smaller counterpart or the Xperia Z5 Compact, the handset features a 4.6-inch screen with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. However, despite being marketed as a compact version, the device is thicker than the regular flagship at 8.9mm. The Xperia Z5, on the other hand, is only 7.3mm thick.

Like the Xperia Z5, the Compact model also houses a 23-megapixel rear camera paired with a 5.1-megapixel front shooter. It also has 32GB of expandable built-in storage but only 2GB of RAM

The third member of the Xperia Z5 family is dubbed as the Xperia Z5 Premium. It packs a larger screen than the standard model at 5.5 inches. It is equipped with a 4K display which, according to Techno Buffalo, makes it one of the few smartphones in the market with the highest resolution settings. With 4K resolution, the device has a pixel density of 806ppi.

Like the other two models, the Xperia Z5 Premium also has the same camera configurations. It also comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

All three handsets have IP68 certification which means they are dust and water resistant.

In addition, as flagship handsets, the Xperia Z5 family is Sony's first line of devices that come with a fingerprint reader, a feature that is becoming a key component in most brand-carrier smartphones. This security feature in the new Xperia Z5 models can be accessed through the devices' home buttons.

The Xperia Z5, Compact and Premium versions are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor. Although this chipset is a high-rated model, hopefully, it will not cause the same overheating problems that plagued Sony's Xperia Z4 or Xperia Z3+.

The first two models are expected to debut in stores in October while the Premium variant will ship out sometime in November. Their pricing details and regional availability, however, are yet to be clarified by Sony.
