For a while, it seemed like Mark Ruffalo was more than certain that his Marvel character Hulk, also known as Dr. Bruce Banner would be in the next Marvel film, which is "Captain America: Civil War."

The rest of his fellow Avengers (and then some!) are already a part of the movie, so why shouldn't the green, angry superhero be a part of it too? During an earlier interview with HitFix, Ruffalo said that his involvement in the film was already a given especially since the "Iron Man" star said so.

"If Robert Downey, Jr. says I'm in 'Captain America,' I'm in 'Captain America,'" Ruffalo laughingly said. "And I will wait for the day that my call sheet shows up at my doorstep or my script. At this point, I'm told that I'm in it by Robert, which I'll take as biblical, but I just haven't heard or seen from production yet."

But now, the actor is singing a different tune. In an interview at the Venice Film Festival, Ruffalo told BadTaste.it that Hulk's developing story will not coincide with the storyline of "Captain America: Civil War," and that is why he will not be a part of it.

"I thought that I would be in the film, but in the end evidently (I) believe that what happened to Hulk is something too big, and Marvel wants to use this information later," he said. "My character had been inserted in the script, but then it was taken away. Who knows, maybe Hulk will never return? However, they want to keep the revelation of what happened a secret because it is something really big."

The last people saw of Hulk, he was flying off to who knows where in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," much to the dismay of his fellow Avenger and blossoming love interest Natasha Romanov, also known as Black Widow and played by Scarlet Johanssen. The agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. tried desperately to locate him, but all their attempts were unsuccessful.

Ruffalo said that the possibilities of his character getting more screen time are endless, and when asked how many times he played Hulk already, he answered, "I think it's four now, but that could always go further. That could include different - I could show up in another character's movie; I could do Avengers 3 and 4; I could do a Hulk standalone; I could do a combination of those things. That's four or five, I think."
