New reports claim that Apple is preparing to introduce a new 21.5-inch display variant for its iMac line sometime in October.
The upcoming device will reportedly come with a 4K display setting and upgraded resolution specs.
According to 9to5Mac, the Cupertino-based tech firm will hold a special launch event scheduled next month. Although the features of the event are still unconfirmed, the site's sources claimed that Apple will unveil a new iMac with 4K Retina display as well as the final versions of the OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 platforms in October.
For the launch, Apple is expected to introduce a new model from its iMac line. Its display will reportedly be 21.5 inches in size and feature 4K Retina setting. If this is true, then the upcoming display model will feature a significantly upgraded resolution setting at 4096x2304 as compared to previous versions' 1920x1080 settings.
But aside from an improved visual quality, the upcoming model might also come with an updated processor. Although Apple has not officially announced anything yet regarding the new model, various sources speculated that it might come with the Skylake processor from Intel, Tech 2 has learned.
This chip, which has been popping up in recent leaks about upcoming gadgets, is expected to provide more efficient processing power as well as improved color configuration.
Given the device's enhanced resolution setting, the iMac's 4K Retina display will feature a pixel density of 218.6 ppi, beating that of the 27-inch version's 217.6 ppi, according to Mac World.
If rumors about the upcoming device are true, then it will be Apple's first iMac device to feature a 4K display. It will also serve as the first major update for the 21.5-inch iMac line since 2013.
Pricing details about the new model, however, are still unclear. Hopefully, Apple will release more information such as regional availability, pricing and more features regarding the 21.5-inch 4K iMac within the weeks leading up to the scheduled launch event.
As for the new model's official release date, various sources reported that it will begin to debut in retailers sometime in November of this year.
The first versions of the 21.5 and 27-inch iMac models were first unveiled by Apple in November of 2012. They came with the i3, i5 and i7 variants of the Intel Core 2 Duo and came with 256GB of SSD storage or 500GB to 2TB of HDD.
