Open Bank's charity foundation, Open Stewardship Foundation, will be hosting a non-profit organization fair called "Love of Sharing" on September 19, during which representatives of 20 local Korean non-profit organizations will be present.
"As Open Bank's 10th anniversary, we were thinking of what might be a meaningful way to celebrate," said Open Bank CEO Min Kim. "As we've been supporting numerous non-profit organizations over the past few years, we realized that so many of these people are doing lonely and difficult work, hidden from the attention of other people."
"Many of them are in need of financial support, as well as volunteers," she explained.
Kim added that she hopes this fair would be "an opportunity for non-profits to be promoted and known to the community, and for them to be encouraged and appreciated for their work."
The fair will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Moseley-Salvatori Conference Center at Good Samaritan Hospital. Seminars led by Assemblywoman Young Kim and Thanksgiving Church lead pastor Hong Joo Choi will start off the fair in the morning, followed by a performance by God's Image, a youth worship ministry comprised mostly of Korean Americans. The afternoon will feature booths of the non-profit organizations that will be featured for the event.
A play space for children, including balloon and painting booths, will also be made available.
"I want to especially encourage families to come all together," Kim said. "It would be a great opportunity to teach our children to help our neighbors who are in need."
Open Bank launched the Open Stewardship Foundation and Open Stewardship Program in 2011 to give 10 percent of its annual profit to civic, non-profit, and Christian organizations each year. Since then, it has donated tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to dozens of non-profits. $374,200 was given to 73 different non-profit organizations most recently in 2014.
An estimated $1.2 million has been donated by Open Bank through this effort since 2011.
Some previous recipients of the Open Stewardship Program include Duranno Father School, USA; Korean American Family Services (KFAM); Korean American Coalition (KAC); Choong Hyun Mission Church Shalom University; Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC); SON Ministries; The Well Mission; Young Nak Outreach & Transformation Foundation (YNOT); Korean Resource Center; Oaks of Righteousness Ministry; and Milal Mission of Southern California; among many others.
