"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin is making the coolest cameo yet in the post-apocalyptic thriller "Z Nation."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Martin will be appearing in the television show as a zombie author who signs his own book. In this case, he will be signing copies of "A Promise of Spring," which is a playful take on his real book "A Dream of Spring" - the seventh and possibly conclusive novel in his epic "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga.
For now, Martin is still working on his sixth novel entitled "The Winds of Winter," and he has acknowledged that given its speedy pace, the "Game of Thrones" show might finish first before his novels do.
Martin will be appearing in the eighth episode of the "Z Nation" series, which will return to Syfy on Friday at 10 p.m. In it, Martin plays himself, who has been imprisoned by a character named the Collector, who preys on celebrity zombies. The Collector likes to keep his prisoners in check, and in Martin's case, he chains the author to his own desk.
The author even jokes about his cameo: "I just want to prove to my fans that even in the Zombie Apocalypse, the 'Song of Ice and Fire' books will still come out!"
"Z Nation" will not be Martin's first cameo. He has already made an appearance in Syfy's "Sharknado 3," and he also appeared in the 1980s CBS version of "Beauty and the Beast," where he worked as a writer.
Interestingly, Martin has yet to make a cameo in his own HBO series "Game of Thrones." However, in the original yet unaired version of the show's pilot, Martin made an appearance as one of Dany's wedding guests.
A lot of exciting things are in store for "Game of Thrones" season 6, especially after the show decided to kill off certain key characters, such as Jon Snow and Stannis Baratheon.
Martin hasn't said anything much about Snow's real fate, but as for Stannis, the author confirmed that the character is definitely alive in the books, although he encountered a different fate in the show.
The show will also be bringing back Bran Stark's storyline, and as for Arya, she will deal with the consequences of her actions in season 5 (she did kill Meryn Trant, after all), and she will train to become an assassin while dealing with blindness.
