As far as suitors are concerned, Lady Mary from "Downton Abbey" has had her fair share of lovesick Romeos.
Season after season, Lady Mary is being wooed by men from left and right, but no one quite made an impact on her heart like Matthew Crawley did. However, after he died in a tragic car crash, Lady Mary was left a widow and a single parent to their young son George.
Still, that did not stop her suitors from trying to win her heart. In season 4 alone, she was pursued relentlessly by Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake. She seemed to like Lord Gillingham initially, but their relationship fizzled as soon as it started.
When season 5 ended, Lady Mary seemed to have another suitor lined up - Henry Talbot. Michelle Dockery, the actress who plays her, hinted that things might get exciting for the two characters. "There definitely is a chemistry between him and Lady Mary. At the moment it's looking good but we will have to see," she told Express UK.
But not everything is as rosy as it seems, since she quickly added: "What appears to be a good relationship for Mary, seemingly moving in the right direction, takes a cruel turn that sends Mary to a dark place again."
The actress also teased that Talbot isn't the only fish in the sea for her character. "Lady Mary is never short of a suitor. There could be someone else around," she laughingly shared.
When she was asked who these suitors might be, Dockery insisted: "At this point, I'm not sure."
Lady Mary's actions in the past have made her the subject of much gossip, but now that she's grown up, Dockery said that Lady Mary does not care much about the petty things in life anymore. "Mary is a bit tired of the scandal and as she says: "You're not the first person who's tried to blackmail me,'" said Dockery.
"She's a bit tougher now and perhaps she's like "if it's going to happen, it's going to happen and I'll face it.'"
Meanwhile, executive producer Gareth Neame earlier revealed to TV Guide that Lady Mary was dating around last season. "To use modern parlance, she's gone on a few dates, but that's inconclusive," Neame said. "I'm interested in exploring this territory because she's older than she was in the early seasons and she's been married and she's a widow. For anyone who's been divorced or widowed, entering into a second marriage is so much more complicated than an initial relationship. It's much more complicated."
