James Bond: Spectre encounters several setbacks. |

When reports started circulating that Daniel Craig is through playing James Bond after "James Bond: Spectre," the first question that formed in people's minds are: Who is going to be the next Bond?

A lot of actors are vying for the highly covetable role, with fans having their own ideas as to who will be perfect to play the British secret agent. In fact, even former Bond actors such as Pierce Brosnan has weighed in on the debate.

Brosnan starred in four 007 films between 1995 and 2002, and he told the Press Association that "anything is possible for sure" as to who will portray Bond in the next film.

But personally, Brosnan cannot help but bet that "he'll be male and he'll be white."

"There's wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there's no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond," the 62-year-old Irish actor quickly added.

One of those black actors is Idris Elba, who seems to be both a fan and studio favorite to become the next Bond. However, Bond creator and author Anthony Horowitz is not a fan of the idea, and he said that the actor is "too street" to play Bond.

"Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better," he told the Daily Mail in late August. "For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah."

Horowitz drew a lot of flak and criticism for his comments, and the author immediately offered an apology and explanation after, saying that he's simply a writer and not a casting director, so his statements should bear no weight as to who the next Bond will be.

Meanwhile, Brosnan adds that the next Bond might be black or white, but one thing he's certain of is that Bond will never be called Jane.

"But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he's all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond," he insisted.

"James Bond: Spectre" will hit theaters on November 6, 2015. Its theme song will be "Writings on the Wall" and is sang by "Stay With Me" singer Sam Smith.
