Springfield's resident couple Homer and Marge Simpson will not be getting divorced in the 27th season of "The Simpsons," but they will still be dealing with the repercussions of their separation.
Marge has finally reached her limit with Homer's selfishness, laziness, and boorish ways and decided that she will no longer tolerate his bad behavior. Homer might be heartbroken by Marge's decision, but don't expect him to remain heartbroken for too long, according to Entertainment Weekly.
In the new season, Homer has been diagnosed with narcolepsy, a condition characterized by an extreme tendency to fall asleep whenever in relaxing surroundings. Because of this, he is introduced to a twenty something pharmacist named Candace, voiced by "Girls" creator and star Lena Dunham.
Homer finds himself falling in love with her in the episode entitled "Every Man's Dream" when he gets his prescription for narcolepsy, and surprisingly, Candace feels the same way towards him.
She even shares her views about him to her skeptical friends, voiced by Dunham's "Girls" co-stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet.
Executive producer Al Jean said that they wanted to do a completely unique episode and that is why they created Candace and her friends.
"We wanted to take a serious look at what it would really be like to be Mrs. Homer Simpson," he said. "When things are badly with Marge, he befriends Candace. I don't want to say what happens but I'll say with a Stewart Burns script, it's always unexpected, and this one is definitely not what you would expect. For those who are sick of marriage crisis episodes, it goes in a completely different direction than any before."
Jean describes Candace as someone who is "funny, intellectual, slightly awkward."
She has short hair kept neat and tidy with a headband, and she wears glasses. When she's working, she wears her trademark white pharmacist uniform, but during her downtime with her friends, she can be seen relaxing in jeans and a tank top.
"She's not playing herself or Hannah from 'Girls,'" clarified Jean, adding that they wrote her in an "endearing tone that everybody's familiar with, so we were just writing it with her voice in our heads."
People were curious as to whether or not Homer and Candace's relationship will escalate on the episode, but Jean was hard-pressed for spoilers. Instead, he just teased: "She has tattoos-and we see some of them."
