Expectations are pretty high for Zack Snyder's DC movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which would star Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman next year.
No one understands this pressure more than director Snyder himself, who plans to use the movie as a jumping board to create a shared universe for several DC superheroes.
"Listen. I want to - we're working toward Justice League, and I really want to create the - part of the thing I really want to create is the possibility of a world where they could exist together," he said during an interview with 411 Mania. "I think up to this point, it's been difficult to suggest a world where Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman and others could exist in the same universe. That was one of the things I really wanted to try and get at. Not to mention, the amazing opportunity to bring those characters and have those characters tell an important story, their own story, within the confines of a film."
Snyder acknowledges the fact that all superhero characters undergo certain changes throughout time, and he hopes this essence is captured in his film.
"The truth is these characters evolve, and there's a lot of hands in the supporting of these characters. It's great when everybody can know where everything came from. It's important for the legacy of them," he said.
The director also shared that they are "pretty far in" the production of the film, and things are already looking very "cool," at least according to his standards.
But one of the things Snyder knows people will definitely be impressed with in the film is Batman's iconic vehicle - the Batmobile.
"You know it has all the kind of fun stuff. It has the countermeasures - we always talk about the countermeasures because people are like, 'What the heck is countermeasures?' You know if I shot a missile at it, flares would pop out of those holes and stop the missile from hitting it," he shared. "So that's fun. It's got this crazy gun (on the front part of the vehicle). It's super-fast. It's electrified. It can do all the other Bat-car stuff. But the cool thing I liked about it is that it's a purpose built Batmobile, right? Which is kind of fun to get back to that."
Snyder confirmed that he will be making a cameo in the film, although people will not see his face at all. "I pick some things up, but that's it," he said.
