Microsoft has officially unveiled the lineup of free Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles for the January 2016 roster of its Games with Gold program.
And, like in previous offerings, only Xbox Live Gold members will be able to take advantage of the giveaway deals.
As noted in the Major Nelson website, the two games coming for the Xbox One are "Killer Instinct: Season 1 Ultra Edition" and "Zheroes." The first game will be available for the entire month of January while Xbox Live Gold members will be able to get their hands on "Zheroes" from January 16 to February 15.
"Killer Instinct: Season One" originally came out for the Xbox One as the latest entry in the "Killer Instinct" fighting game franchise. The series, which began in 1994, features the combined gameplay elements of "Street Fighter" and "Mortal Kombat." For instance, the games in the series utilizes combo sets based on the former franchise with finishing moves inspired by the latter's Fatalities.
Although "Killer Instinct" is a fighting game, its matches are not divided by rounds. Instead, the bouts between the characters are determined by their energy bars. The game's "Ultra Edition" features all the characters from "Season One" and new accessories and costumes. It also comes with the playable version of the "Killer Instinct" arcade.
"Zheros," on the other hand, is an upcoming game that features shoot-em-up and beat-em-up styles of gameplay. As noted by Cinemablend, the game can be compared to classic platform arcade games such as "X-Men" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." The game is set to make its debut on Microsoft's Games with Gold program.
As for Xbox 360 gamers, they'll also receive two free games in the form of "Dirt: Showdown" and "Deus Ex: Human Revolution." The former will be available during the first half of January while the latter will debut from January 16 to 31.
"Dirt: Showdown" officially came out for the Xbox 360 in 2012 and focuses on tour-type racing competitions. In these events, gamers can choose to complete a variety of tournaments and races.
"Deus Ex: Human Revolution," on the other hand, is the third installment in the "Deus Ex" series but serves as a prequel to the first game. The game came out in 2011.
As noted by Microsoft, the Xbox 360 games that will be unveiled next month can also be played on the Xbox One through its backwards compatibility support. This means Xbox One gamers will be able to download a total of four free games in the next Games with Gold program.
