The British television series "Sherlock" is not a show about love and romance, but fans cannot help but hope that two characters Inspector Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey) would end up together.
Lestrade is a Scotland Yard detective who has a lot of dealings with Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman).
Hooper, on the other hand, is a specialist registrar in the morgue at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London. She had a crush on Sherlock but he ignores her interest, and for a while she also dated Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) in the latter's intent to upset the great detective.
Just recently, Graves said that there is a huge chance that there is a huge possibility that his character's interest in Molly would grow into something more come season 4.
"I think definitely Lestrade has got the hots for Molly. So maybe they'll develop that. We don't know what happens until we see the scripts, and that could literally be a couple of weeks before you film," he said, according to Collider.
As exciting as their union might be, it's not all fun and romance for the next season of "Sherlock." Showrunner Steven Moffat revealed that dangerous times are ahead for the characters.
"Season 4 is going to be... I suppose you'd say... consequences. It's consequences," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Chickens come to roost. It's dark in some ways-obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that-but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you. It's not a safe, sensible way to live."
Moffat also revealed that they will go to extremes during the next season. One day it's hilarious and exhilarating, and suddenly it will become "bloody frightening."
After season 4 is over, however, fans will only be "desperate" for season five, the showrunner said.
"We're certainly going to put them through the mill. It's going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times. Maybe that's the word? A tougher series," he shared.
Fans are curious how long "Sherlock" will run despite its success. After all, its lead star Cumberbatch is now balancing a jam-packed schedule, what with Marvel's "Doctor Strange" now getting ready for its November 4, 2016 release. For Moffat, the show will continue to run as long as Cumberbatch is up for it.
"Once Benedict Cumberbatch gives up Sherlock, what are we going to do? We are going to stop, that's what we are going to do," he told Variety.
