A lot of young girls really envied "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson when she landed the role of Hermione Granger, but the English actress admitted that her life was not as easy as some people suspected it to be.
In fact, she was often jealous of girls who led normal, peaceful lives.
"The level of questioning I was under, coming at such a young age. People asking me 'What do you think of this? Who are you, who are you, who are you?'" she shared with Porter Magazine, according to BBC.
"I felt so inadequate because I just didn't have answers yet. I had so many friends who had a clear sense of self. I envied those girls because I was so unsure of myself," she added.
As difficult as it was to embrace a new role and a new life, Watson did her best to do the character justice so as to honor the "Harry Potter" movies and novels written by J.K. Rowling.
"I'd spent more than half of my life pretending to be someone else. While my contemporaries were dying their hair and figuring out who they were, I was figuring out who Hermione was and how best to portray her," she said.
It was only when the movie series ended that Watson was given a semblance of a normal life. She moved to study at Brown University in America, and she credits her college life for helping her discover her true self.
"Now at 25 for the first time in my life I feel like I have a sense of self that I'm comfortable with," she said. "I actually do have things that I want to say and I want to be my most authentic self."
What Watson learned is that she is a huge advocate for gender equality, and that is why she accepted the role of UN ambassadress for their HeForShe campaign.
Not only that, but she is promoting everything relating to feminism, and has even started her own feminist book club called "Our Shared Shelf." Thousands of women have already joined her book club, including fellow actress Sophia Bush.
Watson's movie roles have gotten more and more diverse too. She has taken on movies such as "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "Regression," "Colonia," and "Noah."
She will be seen next as Belle in the Disney live adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast."
