While Stephen Curry is still reaping the rewards of his team's win over LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, this season's MVP is once again making the headlines and melting people's hearts as reports surface that the Golden State Warriors player will be sending his finals jersey to the mother Drazen Petrovic, according to CBS Sports
Petrovic is a widely known basketball player who was part of the New Jersey Nets. His reign fell at about the same period as Curry's own father, Dell Curry, in the 90s. According to Fox Sports, it was Petrovic's mom who took care of the young Curry while the latter's father took part in the 1992 All-Star 3-point shootout. The jersey will be added to the assortment of memorabilia gathered by Petrovic's family. This will be part of the collection displayed in the Drazen Petrovic Memorial Center, which opened in June 2006 in Zagreb, Croatia, a museum that stores items connected with the life of the great basketball star. Petrovic passed away 16 months after his involvement in a fatal car crash in Denkendorf, Germany in 1993, according to Yahoo Sports.
Mark Jones of ESPN confirmed the same news via social media earlier this week. He posted on Twitter, "Steph Curry sending a jersey from Finals to Drazen Petrovic's Mom who took care of him at the 1992 3pt contest. It'll go in Petro's museum."
Meanwhile, Curry's own mother, Sonya, expressed her pride and joy over the achievements of her son. Praised for his remarkable skill and dedication to the sport, the NBA star's mom believes that "God opened the door for Stephen for a reason-to be a light and example of God," according to Mercury News.
Apart from inculcating a very strong faith in Curry, Sonya taught her son to be humble and grateful when it comes to his fans. "People will love you if you love them," she said. "Give them your all on the court and be nice when you go to the grocery store," she added.
The player's dad, Dell, also instilled invaluable discipline and traits to Curry. "When I got home, it was all about family," Dell shared, referring to his career as an NBA star in the 90s. He added, "My wife kept me grounded. Stephen's does, too. He takes all this as a privilege. He knows how people have supported him and he's grateful."
