Apple has yet to release the highly anticipated 12-inch Retina MacBook, but users now have an idea on what to expect from the device.
Geekbench results surfaced online before it was taken down. But before it was removed, MacRumors have already reported the results showing the performance of the 12-inch Retina MacBook.
Based on the Geekbench results, the entry-level Retina MacBook, which is powered by an 1.1 GHz Intel Core M-5Y31 processor with Turbo Boost of up to 2.4 GHz, is quite comparable to the 2011 MacBook Air.
The 12-inch Retina MacBook was tested twice and got single-core scores of 1924 and 2044 and multi-core scores of 4038 and 4475. It is in line with previous Geekbench results for the 2011 MacBook Air, which was powered by a 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor.
To compare with the 2015 MacBook Air, the new device that packs a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor had a single-core score of 2881 and multi-core score of 5757, which is quite faster than the new MacBook.
But while the scores of the new Retina MacBook and 2011 MacBook Air are almost the same, 9to5Mac pointed out that users should take note that the new 12-inch model is expected to have a much better graphic performance compared to previous MacBooks.
The 12-inch Retina MacBook, which immediately made headlines when it was unveiled in the Apple event last month, is powered by an Intel HD 5300 graphics and also has a faster PCI-e flash storage.
It should also be noted that users have options to upgrade the processor of the new 12-inch Retina MacBook. From the entry-level 1.1 GHz processor, users could request for a build-to-order edition with 1.2 or 1.3 GHz processor.
The 1.1 GHz baseline model will be available for $1,299 with 8GB of RAM 256GB of storage, while retail price for the 1.2 GHz edition that packs 8GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage is set at $1,599.
The new 12-inch Retina MacBook will be available starting April 10 in local Apple outlets. According to reports, demo versions of the Apple Watch will also be available on the same day.
