When the mobile phone first became popular, phone cases were made for the sole purpose of protecting the device from scratches and dents. However, as smartphones become more of a fashion accessory rather than a necessity, people began choosing phone cases which depict their sense of style.
There are smart cases which display a portion of the phone's screen, bulky and rugged cases for people who are always on the go, and thin but durable cases for those who prefer lightweight protection for their handsets.
However, as far as Samsung is concerned, it looks like the manufacturer has other plans in mind.
According to a report by GSM Arena, the Korean manufacturer is allegedly trying out different concept designs for phone cases for the upcoming Galaxy S6. In the report, some of the more interesting ones include a 20MP camera that supports OIS (optical image stabilization), while the other one is a screen panel that displays 'E-ink' text to help people read text or e-books straight from it.
As for the phone case with the camera, the 20MP shooter will allegedly be connected to the smartphone's system in order to capture 20MP images.
Meanwhile, the E-ink feature is the more promising one. Once the phone has been attached to it, the user can view text, PDF files or e-books straight from the case's cover. In the report, this project may likely involve Barnes & Noble, a company which used Samsung hardware to bring 'Nook' to the market.
Another unique idea in the report is a case that will further enhance the device's S-Health features. The case will reportedly allow users to detect and measure pulse as well as blood oxygen levels.
For fitness enthusiasts, another rumored phone case for the Galaxy S6 is designed to attach itself to a bicycle and become a mobile computer of sorts for the cyclist. Using the phone's GPS, the user may be able to detect the distance he has travelled. Results will also be more detailed thanks to the heartrate monitor which is rumored to make a comeback in the Galaxy S6.
