A new "Harry Potter" fan theory is making a lot of people mad since it is painting beloved Hogwarts Headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore in a bad light.
A 2014 Tumblr post, which has recently resurfaced proclaimed that "The Tale of the Three Brothers," one of the stories found in "Tales of Beedle and the Bard," is actually a story about Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort, Professor Severus Snape, and "the boy who lived" Harry Potter.
The story tells the journey of the Peveell Brothers who cheated Death, so Death rewards them each with a gift of their choice. The eldest brother requested for the Elder Wand, the second brother got the Resurrection Stone, while the youngest brother got the Invisibility Cloak. Collectively, the three items are known as "The Deathly Hallows," which is the title of J.K. Rowling's seventh and last "Harry Potter" book.
The Elder Wand is the most powerful wand known to wizards and is unbeatable, but after boasting about it, he was killed in his sleep and his wand was stolen. The second brother used the Resurrection Stone to bring back to life an old lover; however, he pined for her so much that he eventually killed himself. The youngest brother used the Invisibility Cloak to hide from Death until he decided to give it up during his old age, and they met as equals in the end.
According to the fan theory, Voldemort was the eldest child, Snape the second, and Potter was the younger. It's very clear that Voldemort sought the Elder Wand and tried to obtain it at all costs. Snape is seen as the middle brother, who was driven to suicide after resurrecting the girl "he had once hoped to marry, before her untimely Death."
Harry, said to be the youngest brother, evades Death with the help of the cloak until he passed it on to his own son and greeting "Death as an old friend," went with him gladly.
The person who concocted the theory pointed out that Dumbledore is actually death and provided this reasoning: "He greeted Harry at King's Cross and was the one behind Snape and Voldemort's death....He's the one who gave Harry the invisibility cloak too...And he had the stone and the wand too."
There are also others who hypothesized that Dumbledore is the second brother who pined after his sister Ariana, who was killed after he engaged in a foolish duel with his friend Gellert Grindelwald.
