Ayman Al-Zawahri, the current leader of Al-Qaeda, commonly known among people as the brains behind 9/11 as well as countless other attacks in North America, Africa and Asia, ordered Egyptian Muslims to call off further persecutions of Christians, but to turn their focus on bringing down the current Egyptian regime.
In the summer of 2013, Mohammed Morsi, who was president of Egypt at the time, was removed from office However, Coptic Christian began to be targeted by Muslims as scapegoats, following the removal of Morsi. As a result, Islamic persecutors burned over 7- churches and several Christians were reported to be killed.
Al-Zawahri stated that the persecution of Christians has brought up a negative image for Muslims. He commented that, "We must not seek war with the Christians and thus give the West an excuse to blame Muslims, as happened before."
Instead, the leader of Al-Qaeda drew the Egyptians' attention to the current regime, describing Mushir Sisi (Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian armed forces) as an "Americanized puppet".
This order to stop the persecution of Christians in Egypt appeared to be as Al-Zawahri's attempt to reunite the Muslims under a single objective, for as much as 1400 lives have been lost during all the fighting among the Egyptians.
