The upcoming season of "American Horror Story' will be "darker" and more "disturbing" than its previous run, as stated by new reports.
Michael Goi, the director of photography for the hit series, responded to a fan's question about the show's fifth season on Twitter.
As questioned by the fan, "How will the tone of this season compare to past seasons? Each one is so unique!" To this, Goi replied, "Darker, grimmer, more disturbing. Yes, even more than 'Asylum'."
The show's creator Ryan Murphy also confirmed that "American Horror Story: Hotel will be "more horror-based."
Moreover, the showrunner revealed to Deadline that the upcoming season will revolve around "a theme and an idea that's very close to my heart that I've always wanted to do that's a little bloodier and grislier I think than anything that we've done before; it's straight horror this year".
Interestingly, for the first time in the history of the hit anthology, Sarah Paulson will take on the role of a "purely evil" character. The closest that fans have seen her converting to the dark side was in her most recent role as Bette and Dot Tattler, the conjoined twins.
In addition, the fifth season of "American Horror Story' will follow more male-centered stories and place emphasis on male roles, as stated by Murphy.
The male characters confirmed in the upcoming season will be portrayed by Matt Bomer, Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock, Max Greenfield, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson and Denis O'Hare.
Speculations suggest that Bomer and Wittrock's characters will be involved in a romantic love triangle with Lady Gaga, who will be making her major debut on TV with the upcoming "Hotel.'
Aside from the "Born This Way' singer, the female cast members confirmed for the fifth season include Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett and Chloe Sevigny. Despite former mainstay Jessica Lange's announcement that she would no longer be starring in the series, she hinted that she still might be taking on a role in "Hotel.'
"If Ryan came to me and said, 'Would you want to do a small character for a couple episodes?' I would absolutely say yes if I liked it," Lange said. "This was a great collaboration, so I would love to keep working with him."
The horror anthology series will be following the eerie and horrific events that take place in hotels, hence the title. Murphy also announced that the crew will be developing a six-storey Art Deco hotel within the Fox compound for filming purposes.
Meanwhile, FX will be making an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con this week, and "American Horror Story' fans might be having a first glimpse at a teaser trailer that will offer Lady Gaga's first "Hotel' look.
"American Horror Story: Hotel' is set for a premiere in October 2015 on FX. Its official release date is yet to be announced.
