CyanogenMod is undeniably one of the most popular versions of Android available right now. Coming from merely a 'theme', Cyanogen has since become a real OS that has even rivaled Android.
Several days ago, there was a report stating that the latest CyanogenMod installer based on Android 5.0 Lollipop would be released in the next weeks.
This time around, that rumor may have just been confirmed with the alleged release of a new boot animation.
According to the report by Phone Arena, Cyanogen developers have come up with a new boot animation for its latest OS, CyanogenMod 12. In the report, it looks like Cyanogen is following Lollipop's footsteps in providing a cleaner and simpler look in its interface.
In the report, the new boot animation features the OS's logo and a space-like background. According to one of the talents who came up with the boot animation, it 'celebrates space, with minimal letterforms that don't quite connect, giving the logo a sense of motion and a feeling of inherent energy.'
A lot of people are already waiting for the CyanogenMod 12, especially that it allows them to update their devices even if they are not supported by official Android releases anymore.
Aside from the boot animation, the new operating system will reportedly make Boxer as the new standard email app. Once the new CyanogenMod 12 becomes live, it will first run on the OnePlus One smartphone, as well as the Yureka Yu from Micromax.
Cyanogen and OnePlus had a good partnership when the OnePlus One was first launched. However, an exclusive deal between Cyanogen and Micromax in India was seen as an attack by the former against OnePlus, who was then trying to make its presence felt in India.
Based on reports, the CyanogenMod 12 could be the last Cyanogen-developed OS that will run on the OnePlus One. Last month, the company teased its upcoming 'Oxygen' OS.
Currently, Cyanogen is running on millions of devices around the world, and it comes complete with its own OTA updates that it rolls out. For supported versions, users can check out its official downloads page where under development firmware are getting tested.
Of course, these firmware installations are not recommended for non-power users. That is because installing Cyanogen on some phones requires rooting, and worse - an unlocked bootloader. Fortunately, XDA Developers is a website that helps Android fans to get more from their devices and phones.
