Samsung's goal of rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to its users continues as the update has reportedly reached its flagship Galaxy S series. While a number of Galaxy S owners have already received the latest OS update on their devices, others are reportedly still waiting for such upgrade.
First up is the Galaxy S5, Samsung's current flagship phone, with which the Android 5.0 Lollipop has already been released in the United States.
Verizon became the first major mobile carrier to roll out the update to its customers this February. Sprint and T-Mobile soon followed with the rollout, which only leaves AT&T owners of the Galaxy S5 waiting for the Lollipop experience.
For the Galaxy S4, U.S mobile carriers have yet to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and catch up with other countries.
Last February 10, Galaxy S4 owners in India also received the update on their devices. If Samsung makes use of the same approach used in rolling out the update for the Galaxy S5, it is expected that the U.S. will have the OS upgrade in the next few weeks.
With the Galaxy S3, it may seem unlikely for the device to receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop update, given the fact that it was released over two years ago and has not even received an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update yet.
Moreover, Samsung has not yet released an official announcement concerning the OS upgrade for the Galaxy S3. Nonetheless, with the company confirming that the Lollipop will still be rolling out to the Galaxy Note 2, which is as old as the S3, there may be still be a possibility that the S3 will have the update.
Finally, the Lollipop experience will reportedly be made available for the specialized variants of the Galaxy S5, such as the Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy S5 Active. Even the new variant of Alpha is expected to receive the update. However, details regarding the dates of rollout and the countries where it will be released are yet to be announced.
Owing to the fact that Samsung is placing more emphasis on its highly popular flagship devices, it is likely that such updates may roll out after a few more months.
