Sony has reportedly announced that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be arriving for its Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact.
However, the tech giant has not yet provided an exact release date regarding the Android update's debut for the Z3 devices.
News about the arrival of the Android 5.0 to the Z3 series emerged in January after Michael Fasulo, the COO of Sony Electronics, made an appearance during the CES 2015 conference held in Las Vegas, Christian Examiner reported.
According to the executive, users of the Z3 mobile devices can expect to receive the update sometime in February. Fasulo's January announcement served as an update regarding Sony's previous statements about the Android Lollipop's update for the Xperia Z line of products.
In October of 2014, Sony mentioned that the Xperia ZR3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1, Xperia ZIS, Xperia Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z will get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
However, February has already passed by and Xperia owners have not yet seen the Android 5.0 on their devices. In addition, Sony has not yet addressed Fasulo's earlier statements back in January.
Despite the lack of updates from Sony, owners of the Xperia Z products can still hope to receive the Lollipop update sometime in the future.
Recently, the company unveiled the Android 5.0 for Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 for users residing in Baltic and Nordic countries, according to GSM Arena.
The tech news site claimed that Sony will make the update available to other regions within the next two to three weeks.
The update for Sony's flagship smartphones features fully customizable settings for the notifications and lockscreen. Google's Material Design for the Android Lollipop was also modified a bit for the company's Xperia devices, Beta News has learned.
