Android 5.1 Lollipop Update for Nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 Rolling Out Soon?

The telecomm companies T-Mobile and Verizon confirmed that Google's Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be arriving for the Nexus mobile devices.

There are no official dates yet regarding the release of the update for the Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 but according to Verizon, the out-of-the-box Nexus 6 is already equipped with Android 5.1, according to Tech Times.

Verizon made the announcement shortly after confirming that it will be the official carrier of the Nexus 6.

"The Nexus 6 by Motorola will be available for ordering on the nation's largest and most reliable 4G LTE Network starting March 12 online and will be in stores starting March 19," Verizon said in a statement.

"The smartphone will be $249.99 with new two-year activation or $27.08 per month for 24 months with Verizon edge," the company added.

Verizon noted that those who purchase the Nexus 6 before March ends are entitled to receive a 6-month subscription package to the Google Play Music All Access for free.

As for the other Nexus models, T-Mobile noted that the these are also in line to receive the latest Android update from Google.

As for the new operating system's features, the Android 5.1 Lollipop comes with HD voice calling capabilities for other compatible smartphones as well as support for multiple SIM cards for devices with more than one slot.

Google is also bringing back the silent mode for its devices through the Android 5.1, Gizmodo reported.

In addition, the latest Lollipop update has a feature that eases Wi-Fi connectivity. Like having a memory feature, the Android 5.1 remembers faulty networks and avoids them. In other words, it prevents the device from automatically connecting to these types of networks in the future.

Google also added a security feature that unlocks the device only after the owner uses his or her Google account to sign in. The feature still applies even after the device's factory settings have been reset.
