Android 5.0 Lollipop has just started rolling out to some supported devices. While some high-end smartphones have not received the update yet, Google has already released the latest update for its newest Android version.
According to a report by GSM Arena, the update has been made available and a web page has gone live to showcase it. Unfortunately, no further details have been revealed about its changelog or the improvements and changes it will bring to devices.
However, in the report, the first devices to get the Android 5.1 Lollipop update are Android One smartphones which were released last year.
In the report, one of the devices that would get the update is the Nexian Journey, whose UI screenshots revealed how the new update looks and functions. However, fans would surely need to get an official changelog from Google first before updating their devices. Other supported devices include the Mito Impact and the Evercross One X.
In the official website of Android One, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will roll out shortly to devices this month.
While Google has not yet released the official changelog, a report from Android Pit last month claimed that the 5.1 update will bring a ton of changes and improvements for the latest Android version.
Based on Android Pit's sources, here are the changes consumers should expect from the latest Lollipop update:
- Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
- General improvements in system stability
- Improved RAM management
- Fixes for sudden app closures
- Improved battery management
- Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
- Issues with wireless connections fixed
- Problems with Okay Google function solved
- Notifications problems solved
- Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
- Other improvements and changes
- Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
In the report, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will roll out to Android devices throughout February, especially members of the Nexus lineup. Owners of the Nexus 5 from LG, Motorola's Nexus 6, and HTC's Nexus 9 are expected to receive the update shortly.
However, for flagship and other high-end devices from Samsung, HTC and Sony, the 5.1 update would only take them one step behind the current version of Android Lollipop.
Last week, there were reports that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 would not get the Android 5.0 Lollpop treatment in time due to its development to support the Gear VR. Meanwhile, HTC has failed to meet its 90-day deadline in releasing Android Lollipop to its flagships and high-end midrangers.
