Motorola has begun seeding the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to its 2nd generation Moto X and LTE variant of its Moto E.

The roll out has already started but is being conducted in stages. This means owners of the mentioned Moto devices can expect to receive the update within the next few days.

News about the arrival of the update for handsets emerged earlier in May after David Schuster, the company's senior director of Software Development, posted through his Google+ account that Motorola has started testing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

"I know that a lot of people have been asking about the status of the Moto X Lollipop upgrade," he posted. "I can see the frustration and in some cases the anger about how long it has taken to get the upgrade deployed."

"I am glad to announce that we are starting TestDrive in both the US and [Latin America]," he added. "If all goes well we should start full deployments in a few weeks."

Then, earlier this week, Schuster noted that the deployment of the update has been approved.

This was then supported by a recent post on the telecom site US Cellular regarding the details of the update for the Moto X 2nd generation and Moto E LTE.

According to the post, both devices have to be connected to a secure Wi-Fi network in order to successfully download and install the OS update. For the Moto X 2nd generation, the update's build number is LPE23.32-21. As for the Moto E LTE, the upgrade should have the build number LPI23.29-15, 9to5Google has learned.

Users will be notified regarding the availability of the update for their devices. But for those who want to check it manually, they can do so by going to the Settings menu and selecting About Phone. From there, they should go to System Updates and tap OK.

An on-screen prompt will then appear to guide them through the download and installation process.
