Rumors surrounding the upcoming Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update suggest that it could further improve the camera features of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones.
The reports mentioned some of the improvements include additional functions and wider technical support for the devices' cameras.
Currently, it is not yet clear as to when Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will exactly be rolled out. Previously, T-Mobile launched Android 5.1.1 to the Galaxy S6 Edge devices but according to Sam Mobile, that was not the latest Lollipop's final version.
Instead, the site noted that T-Mobile might have released the update by mistake which is why it halted its launch. Also, the OS upgrade released by the company did not have improvements for the smartphones' camera.
For the finished and real version of Android 5.1.1, the update will include support for Google camera API on Lollipop for Samsung's flagship devices. In addition, the upgrade will come with added settings that will let users control the camera's shutter speed and RAW shooting, Android Authority reported.
These features are not included in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. However, rival companies such as HTC and LG have already equipped their flagship devices, particularly the One M9 and G4, with these settings.
With these added improvements through the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, it seems the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is aiming to maintain its title as the smartphone with the best camera in the world.
This honor was recently given to Samsung by DxOMark, the mobile division of the France-based software firm DxO Labs.
In a review report released by the company, the Galaxy S6 Edge outranked other smartphones including Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and Sony's Xperia Z devices in terms of camera features.
Out of a hundred points, the Galaxy S6 Edge scored an 86 due to the good exposure, low noise levels and fast autofocus features of its camera.
