HTC confirmed that it will not bring the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its One Mini 2 handsets.
According to the Taiwanese tech firm, it decided to cancel the arrival of the update because it will not provide an efficient user interface experience to the smartphone model, Pocket Now reported.
News about the official status of the update was announced by HTC through Twitter while answering a user's question regarding the arrival of the upgrade.
"We determined that Lollipop on the One Mini 2 will not provide an optimal experience," the company tweeted. "It isn't scheduled to receive the update."
Many users found HTC's decision to shut out the Android 5.0 Lollipop from the One Mini 2 questionable since the device was only released a year ago.
The HTC One Mini 2 came out in May of last year and was marketed as the compact counterpart of the One M8.
Although some speculated that the One Mini 2's less powerful processor, the Snapdragon 400 with 1GB of RAM, will not be able to run the update properly, Techno Buffalo noted that companies such as LG and Motorola have proved that the same chipset can handle the Lollipop.
In addition, earlier this year, HTC assured its customers that all devices from its One line of smartphones will receive the newest updates from Android. Following the company's latest announcement, users of the One Mini 2 took to Twitter to criticize HTC.
I bought the One Mini 2 over the S5 mini because I prefer HTC and was looking forward to Lollipop on it," Twitter user Kyle Hey posted. "What a mistake."
Another user, Ahmet Aydemir, noted that just because the One Mini 2 is not a flagship device, it will not receive that same updates as HTC's high-end smartphones.
"Unprofessional, disrespectful, unthoughtful," Aydemir tweeted. "Literally abandoning those who don't use a flagship."
