Some users of LG's wearable devices, the G Watch and G Watch R, reported through Reddit that the Android Wear 5.1.1 update has arrived for their smartwatches.
Although the update comes with new features for the devices, the users will not be able to utilize its Wi-Fi support, according to 9to5Google.
Google first announced the arrival of the OS upgrade last April through a post on the Android blog. One of the notable features of the update is its gesture support.
Through the latest version of the Android Wear, G Watch and G Watch R owners will now be able to check notifications through their wearable devices by flicking their wrists. This feature will enable them to go through each notification even without touching the watch's face.
Another feature of the update is the always-on option for apps.
"When you buy a watch, you want it to, well, tell the time," Google explained in the blog post. "So most Android Wear watches include an always-on screen - no tapping, twisting or shaking required to see what time it is."
"Now we're expanding this option to apps, so they can stay visible as long as you need them, instead of disappearing when you drop your arm," the company added.
Aside from these, LG's smartwatches will receive a revamped menu screen through the update. Owners of the devices can also use emojis when replying to messages after installing Android Wear 5.1.1.
Although Google explained that the Android Wear update includes Wi-Fi support, G Watch and G Watch R users will not be able to utilize this feature. For one, the G Watch was not designed with the proper hardware to support Wi-Fi connectivity.
The R edition of the wearable device, on the other hand, may be able to get the Wi-Fi support in the future. However, as pointed out by Android Police, the current version of the smartwatch still lacks the necessary updates for this feature.
