Rovio and Sony Pictures have finally unveiled the first ever trailer for "The Angry Birds Movie,' with which fans can have their first glimpse at the colorful clash between the feathered friends and green pig villains of the animated feature.
The chief trio of Angry Birds has been voiced by Jason Sudeikis as Red, also known as the bird with a temper; Josh Gad as the swift Chuck, and Danny McBride as the hot-blooded Bomb.
The trailer fittingly opens with the Carpenters hit "Close To You," as Red misguidedly assumes that the female birds are calling for his attention.
The movie will shed light on the events in an island populated by cheerful, flightless birds. In this heavenly place, Red, Chuck and Bomb have always been outsiders. However, the island is visited by strange green pigs and it will be up to the trio to figure out what these villains are up to.
Also lending their voices include Bill Hader as a pig, Maya Rudolph as Matilda, and Peter Dinklage as the Mighty Eagle.
Other voice actors for the video game adaptation are Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, singer Romeo Santos and YouTube sensation Smosh (Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla).
"The question Rovio gets more than anything is "Why are these birds so angry?'" film producer John Cohen previously stated. "This is the origin story for how that ¬conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies."
Played in a wide range of formats, the "Angry Birds' game has reportedly been downloaded for more than two billion times as of 2015. Its animated series titled "Angry Birds Toons' has collectively raked in three billion views on different platforms.
As a video game franchise first developed by Finnish game developer Rovio, the first Angry Birds game made its way to Apple devices in December 2009. As millions of copies of the increasingly popular game were made in 2010, the company began designing versions for other smartphones that have the Android, Windows Phone and Symbian operating systems. Versions for PCs and video game consoles soon followed.
Penned by Jon Vitti, who previously worked on "The Simpsons,' and helmed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, "The Angry Birds Movie' makes its way to US theaters on July 1, 2016.
With an estimated budget of $80 million (USD), "The Angry Birds Movie' was once set for a July 2016 release, a date that would have placed the 3D animated film in a position to rival "The BFG' and "Tarzan.'
