Fox News reported that a second American citizen has died fighting for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on August 28th. The person has been revealed to be 29-year-old Somali-American, Abdirahmaan Muhumed from Minneapolis.
The first American to have died while fighting alongside the Islamic State was Douglas McArthur McCain. Muhumed was believed to have died in the same battle in which McCane was killed. Muhumed's family had received a photo of his body from the militants, but has not yet been notified by the State Department.
Muhumed, a father of nine children had told Minnesota Public Radio earlier this year that he was motivated to fight for the ISIS by his Muslim faith. He had said, "A Muslim has to stand up for [what's] right. I give this worldly life for Allah". He even added that he wants to "save the global Muslim community" and is "happy with it" if people would consider him a terrorist.
The FBI made it known that there are currently 100 American citizens who are active members of the ISIS, including 15 Somali-Americans. Abdi Hihi, a representative from the Somalian community of Minnesota explained that the Islamic State is also luring American women to leave their homes to join them and fight for their cause. "They are brainwashing them to marry them off to jihadists," Bihi explained. "They call them to help out as nurses, help out the wounded, but the real catch is they will be sexually exploited."
Meanwhile, it has been reported by intelligence that the U.S. was already aware of Muhumed's ties to the ISIS. A White House spokesperson had this to say: "(McCain) is a reminder of the growing concern that the United States has, that many countries in the world have, about the thousands of foreign fighters from 50 nations who are engaged in Syria and who are affiliating themselves with ... extremist groups."
The U.S. is not the only country that is concerned about its own citizens leaving their country to join the Jihads in Iraq and Syria. England has seen hundreds of its young men leave the country to travel to the Middle East. The British Ministry of Defense Armed Forces announced 800 British Muslim Fighters have joined the Islamic State.
There are even reports of women who are joining ISIS to offer themselves up as "sex Jihads" and provide the militants with sex and comfort.
