Marvel's "Ant-Man' has received a good response at the box office and, while the studio has not announced its plans about a possible sequel yet, actor Michael Douglas, who plays Hank Pym in the movie, has already shared his interest to reprise his character in future projects.
"It'd be great. It'd be wonderful if it [sequel] comes up, but there's no... I haven't heard any plans or anything," the multi-awarded actor said in an interview with Wall Street Journal.
However, Douglas dropped hints about possibilities in future films, saying: "...But I gather, at the famous Marvel end credits tease, you get a sense of what might happen in the future. I don't want to spoil that for people who haven't seen the movie."
Ant-Man's storyline is recognized to play an important part in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe as the superhero is already confirmed to take on a cameo role in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War.'
It is also rumored that Douglas' Hank Pym could make special appearances in future Marvel movies.
In addition, the 70-year-old actor also opened up about working on "Ant-Man' and how it had been a highly enjoyable and unique experience for him owing to the fact that he has never been involved in such a setup before.
"It was a wonderful shot in the arm. I'd never done anything like this. I've always been a little envious of people who have been in them: Jack Nicholson is a dear friend of mine, Danny DeVito," Douglas explained. "Then combine that with the incredible batting average that Marvel has."
Catherine Zeta-Jones' husband referred to the experience as a "tremendous opportunity" and pointed out to the special effects as one of the main things that gave him fascination while working on the film
"I hadn't done any movies with special effects. I was pretty curious to see how it went," he admitted. "I just loved going between the units. We were in the first unit, obviously, the principal actors, but you had the second unit with the stunt guys, the third unit with the special effects, and the fourth unit was with the ants. I just found it fascinating to see how they put it all together."
"Ant-Man' soared to the top of the box office and pulled in a total gross of $58 million over the weekend, becoming the 12th consecutive film from Marvel to debut in first place.
The superhero movie, which reportedly spent a budget of $130 million, follows the story of a lesser-known comic book hero, starring Paul Rudd as the titular character. Once living the life of a thief, Scott Lang became the second superhero to take the name of Ant-Man.
Lang is offered a second chance by the original Ant-Man, as played by Douglas, to turn his life around. Working as a duo, they help defend the secret behind the Ant-Man suit, which allows its wearer to get smaller in size while gaining increased strength.
"It's going to take a little more time for this one to find every part of its audience because of it being a less known character," Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis explained. "But I think the most encouraging thing that we've heard is that plenty of people are commenting on how surprised they were by how much they liked it. It's those kind of endorsements that will bring people back in."
