Asus' ZenFone 2 will be available in the US and Canada starting Wednesday. While the brand is popularly known in Asia, the company is confident that the price and the specs of the new flagship phone would make for a successful launch in the country.
The company has introduced the "specs-packed" smartphone at the CES 2015 in January. Just like Xiaomi's Mi phones, the ZenFone line boasts of powerful flagships sans the expensive price tag. The ZenFone 2 starts selling at $199 for all models, and the good news just starts there.
"When designing the ZenFone 2, we started with you in mind. As a result, ZenFone 2 has a highly-intuitive control layout, incorporating a physical rear key as part of the new Ergonomic Arc design. Snapping selfies, adjusting the volume and retracing your steps now feels completely natural, regardless of whether you are right- or left-handed. The elegant new shape feels secure and extremely comfortable to hold," Asus described the newly launched smatphone on the ZenFone 2's official website.
Asus' new release boasts of a sleek body which comes in at 5.5 inches with 1080p IPS display. It also has a microSD slot (which the Mi phone doesn't have) and Corning Gorilla Glass 3, to protect the ZenFone's screen. What's more is that the phone is also a dual SIM LTE device, allowing users to use two sim cards at the same time.
Under the hood, the ZenFone 2 is equipped with a 64-bit quad core processor, 4GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. The smartphone runs on Android 5.0, which also has Asus' ZenUI.
The new flagship from Asus is also equipped with LTE Category 4+, which enables faster download speeds of up to 250M bits per second, with a 60ms touch response time. This means faster mobile Internet connection on the go.
The camera is also something to brag about. The ZenFone 2's rear camera comes in at 13 MP, while its front-facing "selfie" camera is at 5MP. The rear camera is 5MP apart from the iPhone 6's, which is at a mere 8MP. The camera uses a high tech Toshiba sensor, dual LED real tone flash, and blue glass filter, ensuring crisp and lively shots.
Before its arrival in the US, Asus' ZenFone 2 has already been launched in 15 countries across the globe.
