According to Fox News, this surpasses the previous high of 179,253 in December 2021 and 73,994 in December 2020.
The total number of encounters for the fiscal year 2023, which began in October, is already at 717,660. Among those encountered, 66.78%, or 479,229 individuals, were single adults. The situation has grown more severe than the peak in 2022's historic year, which happened in May, reaching 241,136.

The Republican's narrow majority and failure to retake the U.S. Senate is attributed partly to President Biden's low approval ratings, particularly on the issue of illegal immigration.
RealClearPolitics reports that with a 62.5% disapproval rating, the net approval rating on immigration of the president is 31.5 points below average. His net disapproval rating reached a record high of 45 points in one of the Quinnipiac polls that were part of the dataset.
This is significantly lower than his overall approval rating, which is just 9.7 points underwater. Furthermore, President Biden is blaming Republicans for the border surge. He blamed the rise in border crossings on congressional Republicans' opposition to "comprehensive immigration reform" in remarks made at the White House.
