Former world champion Ricky Hatton wants fellow Britons Amir Khan and Kell Brook face each other in a fight, which could eventually lead to a trilogy.
Khan, who holds a 31-3 record with 19 knockout victories, is looking for a showdown with a big-name fighter next year. The Bolton, England native failed to get a shot at Floyd Mayweather again, after the reigning pound-for-pound king opted to face Andre Berto on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas.
With the Mayweather fight out of the picture in the near future, Khan is now looking at the possibility of facing former stablemate and sparring mate Manny Pacquiao in early 2016. It is unsure, though, if Pacquiao will agree to face Khan because the Filipino boxing icon is eyeing revenge against Mayweather.
According to Hatton, if Khan fails to get a shot at Mayweather or Pacquiao, he should then agree to face Brook. Hatton said that a Khan-Brook showdown could easily lead to a sold-out crowd at Wembley.
"If Khan doesn't get Mayweather, I think the biggest fight out there is Kell Brook," Hatton told Express & Star. "We could have a trilogy of huge domestic rivalries. If Carl Froch and George Groves can get 80,000 people to Wembley, don't tell me Brook versus Khan can't do the same, every day of the week."
Hatton also believes a showdown between Khan and Brook will not disappoint fight fans because both fighters are willing to go all out against each other. The former world champion also thinks that Khan's stock will rise if he wins against Brook, which could eventually lead to bigger fights next year.
"Brook versus Khan wouldn't be a boring fight," Hatton added. "If it is a barnstormer, there's there will be a rematch. It could be Benn and Eubank all over again. Those two didn't need anyone else, they made each other. If Khan can't get Mayweather or Pacquiao, that's the route I would go."
Khan has now scored five consecutive victories after his two straight defeats -- Lamont Peterson in December 2011 and Danny Garcia in July 2012. The former world super lightweight champion is coming off a unanimous decision win against Chris Algieri in their World Boxing Council Silver welterweight title fight in May.
On the other hand, Brook, who holds a perfect 35-0 record with 24 knockouts, won via sixth-round knockout against Frankie Gavin in May to keep his International Boxing Federation welterweight title.
