Amir Khan expressed interest in facing Adrien Broner in his next fight, but there is still a growing call for him to face reigning International Boxing Federation welterweight champion Kell Brook.
Khan, who holds an impressive 30-3 record with 19 knockouts, said in an interview that he will talk to influential adviser Al Haymon to talk about the possibility of facing Broner in his upcoming fight.
"I'm open to it big time. I would love to fight Adrien Broner," Khan told BoxingScene. "I am going to speak to Al Haymon about it while I am here and hopefully we can get something done. That could be the next fight."
However, Khan pointed out that weight could be an issue for the fight. Broner recently insisted that he wants to stay at the 140-pound division. Khan said that he has no plans to fight below 147 pounds anymore.
When asked if he thinks Broner will move up in weight to face him in a welterweight fight, Khan is not too optimistic about it, but he is hoping the former world champion will decide to collide with him.
"I can't see Broner taking it," Khan continued. "He said all this stuff on social media but I can't see him taking it to be honest with you. It would be a big fight."
Aside from Broner, Khan is being linked to a fight with Chris Algieri, who is coming off a lopsided decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in November last year, but the rumored Khan-Algieri fight is already being criticized.
Matchroom Sports promoter Eddie Hearn said that he is puzzled why Khan is considering several opponents instead of just facing Kell Brook, who successfully defended his title against Jo Jo Dan on Saturday.
Hearn said that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are the ultimate targets of Khan. But for him, if the Bolton native wants to get the biggest possible fight, he should face Brook for the IBF welterweight title.
"Fight Kell Brook," Hearn said. "It's the biggest fight out there for him, financially. And there is a world title attached. I know he wants to fight Floyd and Manny, but imagine Amir Khan with a world title attached - he would be unavoidable. And now he can fight Kell Brook for a world title."
