Gennady Golovkin kept his record unscathed and he is hoping that he will finally get a shot against the big-name boxers, particularly Miguel Cotto later this year.
Golovkin, who scored a dominating 11th-round knockout win against Martin Murray in Monaco on Saturday, said that he is eyeing several fighters, but Miguel Cotto is on top of his list.
Golovkin, the reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion, wants Cotto for his next fight to unify the middleweight titles. The Puerto Rican currently holds the World Boxing Council middleweight title and Golovkin is the mandatory challenger for the belt.
"I hope, I hope it's Miguel Cotto because he's the WBC champion," Golovkin said via BoxingScene. "My goal is all of the belts. I need unification fights."
The 32-year-old champion has knocked out his last 19 opponents. And for Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, Golovkin deserves a big-money fight in his next bout. Loeffler said that Golovkin is lining himself up with the big boxing stars after scoring dominating victories in his recent bouts.
"It's my job to look forward and plan his next move," Loeffler said. "With the number of title defenses he's made, Gennady is moving in with some pretty incredible company. We would like to continue that route, and keep adding titles to the collection."
Another possible opponent for Golovkin in his next fight is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who called the unbeaten champion out on Saturday after winning against Murray, saying that Triple G is nothing without his vaunted punching power.
"Without his power, he is not that good a fighter," Golovkin posted on Twitter. "I'll bet you GGG a million dollar of the purse that I'll knock you out if we fight. Come to my weight class."
Reacting to Chavez's challenge, Loeffler said that they are ready to accept the bet, but the Mexican should just stop talking and just sign a contract to face Golovkin.
Loeffler also revealed that Golovkin will likely make his return to the ring in May or June, depending on who they will face next. After his fight in May or June, Golovkin might defend his title two more times later this year should a tempting offer comes along.
"It could be May, it could be June," Loeffler said of Golovkin's next fight. "It would depend on the level of the opponent and the best format for the fight. From there, that leaves six months to fight two more times for four on the year."
