The first full trailer for HBO's new miniseries, "The Casual Vacancy', which revolves around 'Harry Potter' author J.K. Rowling's novel of the same name, was released online. However, 'Potter' fans should not expect any aspect of the story to be similar to those of Rowling's seven-book series.
In contrast, "The Casual Vacancy' book and miniseries, which has three parts, highlight the events that take place in the small English town of Pagford following the death of a community leader. Without a replacement for his position on the committee, dramatic circumstances follow such as town brawls and murder.
A very familiar figure in the TV adaptation may be easily recognized by 'Potter' fans. Michael Gambon, who replaced Richard Harris and played Albus Dumbledore in six "Potter' movies, was cast in "The Casual Vacancy' series as council leader Howard Mollison.
Although there is a slight similarity in terms of casting as Gambon also plays a key role in the upcoming drama series, such connection ends here.
Other cast members include Keeley Hawes (Samantha Mollison), Monica Dolan (Tess Wall), Julia McKenzie (Shirley Mollison), and Abigail Lawrie (Krystal Weedon). Rory Kinnear portrays Barry Fairbrother, the parish councillor in Pagford who meets his unexpected death that eventually brings turmoil into the village as various groups compete for his replacement.
Three candidates are eventually selected; these include Miles Mollison, Howard's son; Colin Wall, Barry's friend; and Simon Price, Barry's half-brother.
Published in September of 2012, "The Casual Vacancy' marks the first adult fiction novel by Rowling after the award-winning author completed the 'Potter' series.
"The Cuckoo's Calling', also a novel written by Rowling after the seven fantasy books, is also set for a TV adaptation, as announced by BBC last December.
Furthermore, the British novelist is currently working on the screenplay for a feature adaptation of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a book set in the world of 'Harry Potter'. However, "typical' characters in the 'Potter' series have not been included. Warner Bros. will release such feature film on magical creatures in 2016.
For "The Casual Vacancy,' parts one and two have been set to air on April 29 on HBO, whereas part three will be released on April 30.
