About 40 children from Sa-Rang Community Church visited a nursing home where some 60 elderly men and women live to share their warmth and love.
In particular, the church's children's choir, called "Sharon Choir,' has been practicing worship songs and body worship for the past three months to perform for their audience at the nursing home, where their performance was met with the warmest applause.
On February 20, these children visited Welcome Christian Home, a nursing home located near Westminster. A dreary quiet is the usual at this place where most of the residents are single elderly men and women, but the place was filled with noise with the children's visit on Saturday.
After the performance, the children, who were dressed in Korean traditional clothing called hanbok, bowed to the elders as a part of Korea's New Year's traditions, and delivered hand-written cards to them.
"Now that I'm older, these children are so precious," shared Kyung-Ja Lee, one of the elderly women who live at the nursing home. "These children are like grandchildren. I was just so happy just to see them."
"This would be the sixth year that Sharon Choir is participating in this ministry at the nursing home," shared Seong Wook Lee, a children's ministry pastor at Sa-Rang Community Church. "The elderly at the nursing home love having them visit, so we've been visiting them each year."
"We're almost like a celebrity group status to them," Lee added. "We'll continue to practice and perform the Korean children's songs that these elderly men and women love."
"I practiced with my mom at home, and I was so happy that the grandmas and grandpas liked it and sang along," shared Ki-Moon Lee, a six-year-old who performed on Saturday.
Lee's mother, Jin-Kyung Hwang, said, "It was meaningful to be able to share just a little bit of joy with these lonely grandmothers and grandfathers."
Meanwhile, the young adults' ministry at Sa-Rang Community Church has been visiting this particular nursing home each month for the 16th year to worship together and serve the elderly.
