On Easter Sunday, the Christ of Peace statue, which stands 108 feet tall, was formally dedicated in Mexico with the presence of the government and church leaders. The sculpture was placed on the 'Faith and Religion Hill.'
Dedication of Christ of Peace Statue
The Catholic News Agency reported that steel and many different polymers were utilized to create the Christ of Peace statue. Miguel Romo, the artist responsible for creating the statue, noted that it took him over two years to finish it. Visitors can ascend a staircase with four landings and lookouts at various points around the sculpture while inside.
As mentioned, David Monreal Avila, the governor of Zacatecas state, Gil Martnez, the president of Tabasco County, and Father Luis Manuel Luévano Diáz, the pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the town of Tabasco, were all present in the dedication ceremony.
The sculpture was reportedly blessed by the priest, who also delivered a message of faith and hoped to the thousands of believers who were present, as stated on the Christ of Peace page on Facebook.
Moreover, Christ of Peace is the name given to the statue by its supporters because they hope that the state of Zacatecas, plagued by the violence associated with organized crime, will become more peaceful after the artwork is dedicated.
On the other hand, Full Catholic reported that some people believe that the sculpture of Christ of Peace in Mexico is bigger than the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Brazil. However, the statue in Rio de Janeiro is 98 feet tall with a 26-foot pedestal, while the one in Zacatecas is 98 feet high with a 10-foot base.
Additional information from the Mexico News Daily stated that the Christ of Peace is not the first enormous religious sculpture in Zacatecas; in 2019, a statue measuring 6 meters tall portraying the infant Jesus was built in the nearby town of Zóquite.

Biggest Statue of Jesus Christ Around the World
Smithsonian Magazine reported that Christ the Redeemer, located in Rio de Janeiro, has been positioned atop Mount Corcovado and has looked out over the city for almost a century. When it was opened in 1931, the towering representation of Jesus Christ quickly became the national symbol, and it is widely considered one of the most famous monuments in the entire globe.
However, a little village in Brazil has already surpassed the size of the statue of Jesus by constructing an enormous version of the figure. Cristo Protector, also known as Christ the Protector, would be finished on April 22 and stood at 143 feet.
Genésio Gomes Moura and his son Markus Moura worked together to design the statue. According to Rachel Davies's article in Architectural Digest, the father-and-son team behind the monument built something "far more detailed than Rio de Janeiro's 91-year-old soapstone iteration." The Encantado statue was given more natural hair and facial features and a longer robe; yet, artistically, it is pretty similar to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro in that it leans toward the Art Deco style.
